Field evaluation of monocrotophos for the control of sucking pests on cotton

COTTON crop in the Punjab is attacked by a number of sucking pests from its emergence to maturity. But out of these, cotton jassid (Amrasca biguttula biguttula (Ishida) is most serious. Sometimes whitefly (Bemisia tabaci Genn), aphid (Aphis gossypii Glover), thrips (Thrips tabaci Lind.) and spider mite (Tetranychus cinnabarinus Basd.) do damage the crop. Sidhu and Dhawan (1986) estimated a loss of 114 kg of seed-cotton /ha due to the attack of leaf hopper. To reduce the losses due to these pests a number of insecticides are recommended for their control (PAU, 1987). In the present studies monocrotophos was tested for their control during 1984 to 1987 and the results of the same are given in this paper.
