From rice/fish to integrated farming: sustainable agriculture for resource-poor farmers in North-East Thailand

From rice/fish to integrated farming: sustainable agriculture for resource-poor farmers in North-East Thailand

Doing development: governments, NGOs and the rural poor in Asia: 121-135

The paper considers farming in the impoverished villages of northeastern Thailand. The land of the area is poor and is not viable for the use of modern inputs. Instead, there has been increased raising of fish in rice paddy fields. Rice/fish culture is an extension of Thai farmers' traditional farming and fishing skills and requires few inputs other than labour.
