Genetic control of resistance to brown rust in the Mexican bread wheat variety Cocoraque F75 and its derivatives

Of 169 varieties tested for resistance to Puccinia recondita under severe natural infection during 1976-78 at the Celaya Experiment Station of the Vavilov Institute of Plant Industry (VIR) in Mexico, only Cocoraque F75, Anahuac F75, Dimitrovka 5-14, El Gaucho, CBP205 and Menco were resistant. Cocoraque F75, also highly resistant to P. graminis and moderately resistant to P. striiformis, was crossed with VIR634K (susceptible to P. recondita) in work at the VIR in Leningrad.
