The effect of variable incubation temp., soil moisture and pH on germination of R. oryzae-sativae and some of its post germination behaviour was studied on natural soil surface. Germination of sclerotia was highest (93%) at 30-40 degrees C and 50-75% soil moisture (opt. at 30 degrees and 75% soil moisture). The av. number of germ tube/sclerotium varied between 6 and 12 and moderate to high soil colonization was recorded at 30 degrees and 50-75% soil moisture. Soil pH had very little effect.
