Grain protein variation in rice collections of West Bengal and Tripura

In studies over 2 years 7 rice cultivars grown under shifting cultivation in Tripura, 4 aus (Mar.-July growing season) cultivars from upland locations and 5 aman (July-Dec. growing season) cultivars from lowland areas in West Bengal were collected and grown without fertilizer for 2 years. 100-seed wt of cultivars from Tripura ranged from 1.61 g for Kechkibadan to 2.78 g for Marichbuti while that of aus cultivars ranged from 1.07 (Govindabhog) to 2.58 (Local 1) and that of aman cultivars from 0.79 (Danaguri) to 2.57 g (Raghusal). CP content of Tripura, aus and aman cultivars was highest for Jhummalati (9.63-9.81%), Govindabhog (9.31-9.44%) and Kartiksal (8.34-8.56%), resp.
