The current GDR list contains 6 varieties, 2 of the normal (N) type (combining high root yield and high sugar content), 2 high yielding (E types), one N/E type and one high sugar (Z) type. The most recent (diploid E type) variety, Akzenta, has a refined sugar yield of 7.75 t/ha, compared with 7.25-7.60 t/ha for the other 5. Ponesa, a triploid Z-type form added to the list in 1987, has a higher sucrose content (17.2 degrees ) than the other varieties (16.2-16.8 degrees ).
