Data on 3579 calves were analysed. Differences between dairy and crossbred beef calves (from Charolais, Simmental and Charolais X Simmental bulls crossed with German Black Pied Dairy cows) for body weight up to weaning (about 100 days of age) were small. From weaning to 200 days of age, body weight and growth rate of calves were generally significantly higher than those of dairy calves.
