The dairy goat population of the UK is estimated at 100 000 and growing, so the basis of a goat meat industry is in place. The importance of meat sales to supplement income from fibre is well established, and while at present most dairy units put down their kids at birth, they would prefer them to be reared for meat if there were a market. It is believed that if the prejudice towards goat meat could be overcome, goat meat could create and hold its own market niche.
