Heat sum model to predict internal heat necrosis in 'Atlantic' potatoes

Heat sum model to predict internal heat necrosis in 'Atlantic' potatoes

Proceedings of the Annual Meeting Arkansas Horticultural Society (109): 30-34

Potatoes Atlantic are susceptible to internal heat necrosis characterized by the development of necrotic tissue within the parenchyma inside the stele which makes them unsaleable to the E. coast chip industry. A model was developed based on the concept of growing degree days to give advance notice of when to harvest using av., max. and min. temp. to produce heat sum equations. The model was developed using data from Virginia and New Jersey (1986-88).
