Heavy metal leaching from catchments under different forests at the Schonbuch nature reserve near Tubingen, FRG

Heavy metal leaching from catchments under different forests at the Schonbuch nature reserve near Tubingen, FRG

Mitteilungen der Deutschen Bodenkundlichen Gesellschaft 59(1): 429-432

The influences of topography, vegetation, soil properties and climatic events on heavy metal leaching were studied for valley and plateau sites on Keuper and Lias rocks. Compared with lowlands the plateaux had less relief and therefore less sediment transport, a higher field capacity and a stronger Kf gradient. This resulted in a longer retention time for soil water and thus reduced discharge to the groundwater.
