Trials were carried out during 1985/86 with the cultivars Variegata (Dutch origin), Variegata (Danish origin), Heidi, Ritt, Paula, White Summer, Hobby, Emblem and Inspiration, and also Hebe franciscana Blue Gem, H. hectoris, H. cupressoides Boughton Dom and H. elliptica. Increasing the overwintering temperature (0-5, 5-8, 10-12, 16 degrees C) led to slightly stronger growth and slightly earlier flowering, but these effects were less obvious in plants raised for the late market (Sep.).
