The development of cereal seedling diseases caused by Pyrenophora graminea, P. teres, P. avenae, P. tritici-repentis, Cochliobolus sativus, Gerlachia nivalis and Fusarium culmorum is discussed. The prohibition of mercury based seed dressings in the German Federal Republic has been linked to the increase in seedborne fungal diseases, especially in P. teres.
