Hematological monitoring of a bio-indicator fish, Heteropneustes fossilis, on exposure to copper toxicity

Israeli Journal of Aquaculture Bamidgeh 422: 46-51

`tomic absorption spectrophotometry and haematological analysis were used to assess copper toxicity in a bio-indicator fish, Heteropneustes fossilis. Results showed that the Cu content in the blood plasma increases simultaneously with the lethally toxic Cu ion in the water body. It seemed that a slight increase in the plasma Cu content sufficiently indicates Cu toxicity in fish. The blood respiratory characteristics were also significantly altered after exposure to various Cu concentrations.
