Herbage productivity of secondary grass species

Herbage productivity of secondary grass species

Proceedings of the 12th General Meeting of the European Grassland Federation, Dublin, Ireland, July 4-7, 1988: 189-193

The productivity of Agrostis capillaris, A. stolonifera, Cynosurus cristatus, Festuca rubra, Poa trivialis, P. pratensis, Anthoxanthum odoratum, Phleum bertolonii and Holcus lanatus was compared with that of Lolium perenne Perma at 0, 120 or 480 kg N/ha year. All except P. pratensis gave higher DM yields than L. perenne without applied N, but only H. lanatus yielded more DOM. At 120 kg N/ha only F. rubra and H. lanatus equalled L. perenne in DM yield.
