Herbicide application in winter wheat - experimental results on weed competition analyzed with a mechanistic simulation model

In a total of 14 field trials in winter wheat over 4 years, omitting the use of herbicides resulted in significantly lower crop yields when weed densities were extremely high in the spring. Simulation analysis of crop/weed competition based on physiological and morphogenetic considerations showed good agreement with the field data.
