Heritability of stem elongation ability in rice

Heritability of stem elongation ability in rice

International Rice Research Newsletter 14(2): 19

F1 and F2 seeds, from crosses of IR11288-B-B-69-1 (shows stem elongation and carries a dwarfing gene) with 4 semidwarf, non-elongating lines, were grown in trays and the water level raised, at 5 cm/day, to a maximum depth of 90 cm. Plants of all crosses survived a water depth of 1 m and the mean stem length was >20 cm (elongating). Plants tended toward the elongating parent indicating dominance of stem elongation.
