Horizontal resistance of wheat to brown rust, associated with ineffective genes for vertical resistance. I. Resistance of monogenic wheat lines of the Thatcher series

Horizontal resistance of wheat to brown rust, associated with ineffective genes for vertical resistance. I. Resistance of monogenic wheat lines of the Thatcher series

Genetika, USSR 24(6): 1041-1047

When near-isogenic lines all carrying ineffective genes for vertical resistance to Puccinia recondita (each line differing from Thatcher in a single resistance gene) were studied under natural infection at 2 sites in the USSR, there were significant interline differences in horizontal resistance. The most resistant lines were those carrying genes Lr10, Lr12, Lr13, Lr14a, Lr14b, Lr17, Lr18 and Lr22 and the most susceptible those carrying Lr2b, Lr3a, Lr3bg, Lr15, Lr16 and Lr30.
