Importance of the vegetative phase in alpine plants for biological erosion control in the alpine vegetation belt

Importance of the vegetative phase in alpine plants for biological erosion control in the alpine vegetation belt

Berichte des Geobotanischen Institutes der Eidgenossischen Technischen Hochschule, Stiftung Rubel ( 55): 151-176

The behaviour of 23 alpine taxa, including Agrostis gigantea, A. schraderiana, Anthyllis alpestris, Poa cenisia, Trifolium nivale and T. repens after single-ramet cloning was studied in greenhouse trials and in field trials above the tree line in the Davos area. Species from early and medium seral communities which exhibited a guerrilla strategy performed well, while those from late seral communities which exhibited a distinct phalanx strategy were not successful.
