In field trials at Jadwisin and Bonin in 1980-82, potatoes Aba, Elida and Reda were given 60, 120 or 180 kg N/ha. At populations of 40 000 plants/ha, single-plant gaps were left amounting to 5, 15 or 25% of the total stand at Jadwisin and 0, 10, 20 or 30% at Bonin. Yield per plant and percentage of large tubers increased with increasing gap percentage at both sites. At Jadwisin total tuber yields were 34.1, 34.6 and 32.9 t/ha with the 3 gap percentages, resp.
