A mixture of diploid Lolium perenne Vigor, Wendy and Bardetta and a mixture of tetraploid L. perenne Meltra, Condesa and Modus were cut daily and fed indoors ad lib to 2 groups of bullocks in spring, early summer, late summer and autumn 1987. In the first 2 periods there was no significant difference in DM intake between the 2 mixtures but in the 3rd period the DM intake of diploids significantly exceeded that of tetraploids because the latter contained more stem material and more ADF.
