Investigations on contagious equine metritis organism infection in warm-blooded mares in northern Germany

, : Investigations on contagious equine metritis organism infection in warm-blooded mares in northern Germany. Praktische Tierarzt 69(10): 60, 63

Taylorella equigenitalis was detected in 29 (1.24%) of 2334 cervical swab samples from mares examined between 1980 and 1987. Of the 29 positive samples, 7 occurred in 1983, 5 in 1984, 3 in 1985, 6 in 1986 and 6 in 1987. Numbers of samples tested for T. equigenitalis ranged from 281 to 350/year. This study was part of the bacteriological examination of 34 400 samples taken. Chloramphenicol, erythromycin, penicillin, tetracycline and gentamicin were effective for treatment.
