Isoenzyme analysis of second-generation somaclones which differed in number of rows/ear, number of grains/row and total grain number from the source line 346 revealed qualitative changes in the anodic acid esterases of the scutellum (probably at locus E5) and in the anodic peroxidases of the mesocotyl (probably at loci Prx3 and Prx7). In all, 9 enzyme systems were analysed by electrophoresis in starch and polyacrylamide gels. Changes in acid esterase were noted in 5 of 11 SC3s studied.
