Two strains of bacteria with high nitrogenase activity in anaerobic conditions were isolated from rice rhizosphere soils in Beijing, and designated D-12 and D-25. Both the bacteria are gram-stained and their spore-forming characteristics are negative. The D-12 strain has a capsule and no pili; the D-25 strain has pili but no capsule.
