Isolation of Mycoplasma gallinarum and M. gallinaceum from the reproductive tract of hens

, : Isolation of Mycoplasma gallinarum and M. gallinaceum from the reproductive tract of hens. Australian Veterinary Journal 67(1): 31-32

Ten commercial M. gallisepticum- free pullets were vaccinated by live attenuated M. gallisepticum vaccine at 14 and again at 41 weeks-of-age. The vitelline membranes of all eggs laid by the hens between 41- and 49-weeks-of-age were inoculated into mycoplasma broth and subcultured onto mycoplasma agar; no mycoplasmas were isolated. At 49-weeks-of-age the hens were killed, PM examinations carried out and swabs cultured for mycoplasmas. No significant gross lesions were observed.
