Managing Central America's renewable resources: the path to sustainable economic development

The political, economic and social crises of Central America are integral to the degradation of its forests, soils, and water resources. In particular, economic inefficiency and environmental destruction are closely related. Central America's population has been growing at a faster rate than in any other region of the world, creating extraordinary pressures which manifest themselves in deforestation, land degradation, destruction of coastal resources, pesticide misuse, and poisonings.
