Mating Romney ewes in November-December using CIDRs and pregnant mare serum gonadotrophin

Mating Romney ewes in November-December using CIDRs and pregnant mare serum gonadotrophin

Proceedings of the New Zealand Society of Animal Production 49: 255-260

In 3 factorial experiments, effects of breed of ram (Poll Dorset vs. New Zealand Romney), ram:ewe ratio (1:10 vs. 1:7), previous lambing season (autumn vs. spring), intravaginal progestogen sponges (new vs. used), dose of PMSG, time of introduction of rams (0, 24 or 48 h after sponge removal) and melatonin implants (implanted vs. not implanted) on the percentage of ewes that conceived to mating in Nov. and Dec. were studied. Breed of ram and ram:ewe ratio had no effect.
