DNA purified from an equid herpesvirus (EHV) isolated from lesions similar to those of equine coital exanthema in a donkey appeared to differ in some characteristics from the DNAs of the other equid herpesviruses (EHV-1, -2, and -3). The DNA is 92 Md+or-12, G + C content of 69-70%, and does not contain any Xbal restriction endonuclease (RE) digestion sites.
