The main findings of a survey carried out in Canada, 1985, among a representative sample of 2013 respondents are presented. Listening to recorded music is such a widespread practice that it can be considered as a typical phenomenon of mass culture. The majority of respondents listen to music on the radio, except for youth who listen to cassettes more frequently.
