Muskmelon hybrid seed production through ethephon-induced feminization in andromonoecious cultivars

When a glabrous marker gene line of the andromonoecious cultivar Piel de Sapo was pollinated by Piel de Sapo, treatment of the seed parent with ethephon (250-1000 mg/litre) significantly increased hybrid seed production and pistillate flower percentage. The results indicated that ethephon treatment and the recessive marker gene (gl) used might be useful for developing hybrid varieties.
