Mutation studies in buckwheat (Fagopyrum). II. Gamma ray induced chlorophyll mutations and vital mutation frequencies



Fagopyrum 9: 15-22



Seeds of F. esculentum and F. tataricum were treated with gamma radiation (0 to 40 kR). Chlorophyll mutations and other viable mutations were observed. Maculata was the most common chlorophyll mutant; variegated leaves and reduced height were the most frequently observed of the other mutations. Three mutants of F. esculentum were selected, one high yielding with a condensed axis, the second an early dwarf mutant with a condensed axis and much branching and the third tall and high yielding.
