Bulb scales from 5 cultivars were irradiated with X rays applied at 4 intensities ranging from 200 rad (for 2 minutes) to 500 rad (for 5 minutes). Bulblet production from the scales was generally reduced by irradiation. Bulbs enlarged from the bulblets usually produced most mutant flowers following scale irradiation at 250 rad for 2 minutes 20 s, but the most effective dose depended on the cultivar.
