Myrmica samnitica n.sp.: a new parasitic ant of the Appennines near Abruzzo



Fragmenta Entomologica 19(2): 457-469



A new species of ant parasitic in the nest of Myrmica sabuleti in the Abruzzo district of central Italy is described from the adult male and female as M. samnitica sp. nov. It can be distinguished from all other parasitic European species of Myrmica by the reduced pectinate tibial spur, the ventral projection of the postpetiole, the hairiness of the body and the male antennae with only 12 joints.
