Myths of Colombian agriculture

A number of commonly held beliefs regarding Colombian agriculture and its potential for development are discussed. Too often, it is considered, simplistic and unreal theories have prevented governments from recognizing the real importance of agriculture in the development process. Malthus' theory of scarcity is often the basis of such misconceptions. First, Colombia can be self-sufficient in foods: only 6% of national food requirements are imported, of which a third could be produced locally.
