NC-311, a new sulfonylurea herbicide in rice

The physical and chemical properties, toxicology and mode of action of NC-311 (pyrazosulfuron) are described. In pot tests it showed high activity against annual and perennial broadleaved weeds and sedges pre- and post-em. at 0.13 and 0.18 g/ha, resp. It was non-toxic in transplanted rice at 21 g/ha under drawdown and shallow flood conditions. Under the same conditions 42 g/ha was slightly phytotoxic, with Indica rice less sensitive than Japonica rice.
