North Dakota Farm Research 46(4): 36-37



Yellow dent maize synthetics NDSB(MS)C8 and NDSG(MS)C8 were bred for use in early maturity breeding programmes. NDSB(MS)C8 was developed by 8 cycles of mass selection for yield and lodging resistance at high planting densities from NDSB, and NDSG(MS)C8 was developed by the same selection procedure at low stand densities from NDSG (derived from Minnesota 13). Selection intensity was about 1%. Both new synthetics have higher yields than the highest yielding synthetic from previous trials, NDSAB.
