National demonstration site: in-situ bioremediation of contaminated aquifer

National demonstration site: in-situ bioremediation of contaminated aquifer

Biotechnology applications in hazardous waste treatment: 281-288

Plans to establish a demonstration site where enhanced biodegradation of contaminated soils and groundwater could be carried out under realistic but controlled conditions are reviewed. Two full-scale projects were set up at a US Coast Guard air base. One involved the aerobic metabolism of petroleum hydrocarbons in the aquifer, while the other involved the anaerobic degradation of jet fuel in soil and groundwater.
