National strategy for control of Japanese encephalitis

This presentation, given at a seminar in Calcutta in April 1988, contains tabulated data on the annual incidence of cases and deaths due to Japanese encephalitis in the various states of India from 1978 to 1987. The annual total number of cases peaked at about 7500 in both 1978 and 1986 and in other years fluctuated between about 2000 and 4000. Some 30-40% of patients died each year.
