National survey for leptospirosis and 'milker's fever' in the Netherlands

'Milker's fever' is human infection with Leptospira interrogans serovar hardjo; it was first detected in the Netherlands in 1981. Tests conducted during 1988 on bulk milk from 45 000 dairy herds revealed antibodies to this leptospire in 65%. In certain districts more than 60% of herds were positive, while others were free from infection.
