New bacterial disease by Lobelia erinus cultivar Richardii caused by Xanthomonas campestris

, : New bacterial disease by Lobelia erinus cultivar Richardii caused by Xanthomonas campestris. Plant Disease 74(3): 252

A leaf blight and dieback of L. erinus Richardii was observed in the German Federal Republic and the Netherlands during 1988-89. Losses within individual greenhouses ranged from 30 to 100%. Symptoms began as water soaked, then chlorotic leaf bases and stems, then diseased leaf tips and interveinal necrosis developed. Diseased tissues and symptomless plants yielded a yellow bacterium identified as a new pathovar of X. campestris.
