New dose schedule for the treatment of canine dirofilariasis with thiacetarsamide

In Florida, USA, dogs with natural Dirofilaria immitis infection were treated with thiacetarsamide at doses of 2.2 mg/kg (group 1, 16 dogs), 2.64 mg/kg (group 2, 19 dogs), 2.93 mg/kg (group 3, 11 dogs) or 3.3 mg/kg (group 4, 9 dogs) twice daily for 2 days. The 2nd and 4th doses were given 8 h after the first and 3rd doses respectively and the 3rd dose was given 16 h after the 2nd dose; the first dose was always given between 08.00 and 09.00 h.
