Observations on oestrus synchronization in zebu cattle

Four series of experiments were conducted with 1170 zebu cattle to study the effect on CR of treatment with PG alone or with a progestogen (norgestomet) implant or an intravaginal progesterone-releasing device (PRID) followed by PG. The CR of treated and untreated control cows was 22 and 27% after insemination, and 47 and 41% after mating. After a 60-day breeding period, the pregnancy rate of mated cows was 13 percentage units higher than that of inseminated cows.
