Organization of genes for ribosomal RNAs in Brassica oleracea, Brassica campestris and their natural allotetraploid hybrid Brassica napus

Organization of genes for ribosomal RNAs in Brassica oleracea, Brassica campestris and their natural allotetraploid hybrid Brassica napus

Genetika Moskva 25(3): 417-424

Restriction analysis of the nuclear DNA and Southern blot analysis were used to compare reiterated gene units coding for ribosomal RNAs (rDNA) in the 3 species. The size of the ribosomal repeats was determined, together with the location of the recognition sites of restriction endonucleases EcoRI and EcoRV in these repeats. The rDNA of B. oleracea contained one class of ribosomal repeats 10 kb in size, and the rDNA of B. campestris 2 classes 10 kb and 9.15 kb in size.
