In a study of suitability for pearl barley production in 53 varieties grown under rainfed conditions in the Povolzh'e (Volga Lands) area of European Russia during 1979-81, Soviet 6-rowed varieties (listed) gave a 4.4% higher pearl barley output (51.5%) than 2-rowed varieties (47.1%).
