Abstract
Nine trials of 18 non-black cultivars and 9 trials of 20 black cultivars were carried out at 5 sites in Minas Gerais State during 1985-87. Of the non-black cultivars, Ouro was the most promising, combining average yields of 1481 kg/ha with resistance to Isariopsis [Phaeoisariopsis] griseola, Uromyces phaseoli var. typica [U. appendiculatus] and Xanthomonas campestris pv. phaseoli. On the basis of these trials, this cultivar (characterized by small, cream-coloured seeds) is recommended for Minas Gerais. Of the black cultivars, Rio Tibagi and Milionario 1732 (2 of the 4 cultivars currently recommended for Minas Gerais) gave the best overall performance.
