Physical and mechanical properties of the wood from Scots pine plantations

, : Physical and mechanical properties of the wood from Scots pine plantations. Gorskostopanska Nauka 24(4): 39-47

Studies were made of wood from 105 Scots pine trees on 23 plots in plantations, 10-55 yr old, of site classes I-IV in Bulgaria. Data are presented on ring width, latewood percentage, density, and compressive and bending strengths. The wood was of lower density and strength than that from mature natural stands. In plantations, tree age had a greater influence than site class on wood properties.
