, : Physical characteristics of esterified-wood-meal furfuryl-alcohol-resin composite. Mokuzai Gakkaishi Journal of the Japan Wood Research Society 34(8): 690-696

Wood meal was esterified with maleic anhydride to give an ester content of 5-18%. Resins were prepared with various molar ratios of furfuryl alcohol and formaldehyde and mixed with esterified wood meal or untreated wood meal. The mixtures were pressed at 170-180 degrees C, leading to a hard and homogeneous surface. An account is given of the thickness swelling, surface roughness, contact angle with various liquids, critical surface tension and fracture strength of the various composites.
