Pollination of tomatoes. II. Report of a trial on the automatic shaking of tomato flowers

, : Pollination of tomatoes. II. Report of a trial on the automatic shaking of tomato flowers. Gartner Tidende 104(13): 3337-339

Equipment for the automatic shaking of plants to assist pollination is described and illustrated. It is impelled by compressed air and activated by an electronic device with a time-switch. In a trial, plants were shaken daily for 2-3 seconds at 10.00, 12.00 and 14.00 h starting on 16 Mar., and at these times and 01.00 h from 17 July. The resulting increases in yield over yields obtained with unassisted pollination or hand pollination are shown graphically.
