Population studies of trees in fragmented forests and the implications for in situ conservation in the tropical forest of central Amazonia

Population studies of trees in fragmented forests and the implications for in situ conservation in the tropical forest of central Amazonia

IPEF, Instituto de Pesquisas e Estudos Florestais 35: 47-59

Selected data are given from those collected during 6 yr of study on the effects of fragmentation. Local species distribution, demographic structure and phenology were examined in forest populations and in populations in forest 'islands'. Species discussed include Scleronema micranthum, Virola calophylla, Iryanthera jurensis, Caryocar villosum, C. glabrum, C. pallidum and Goupia glabra.
