Productivity and contents of nitrogenous compounds in the grain of Soviet and European winter wheat varieties

A total of 36 winter wheat varieties of predominantly Soviet origin were evaluated at Piest'any in 1983-85. Year of cropping and variety influenced stand height and grain yield the most. Avalon and Bounty (UK), Bel'tskaya (USSR), Baranjka (Yugoslavia) and Donskaya Polukarlikovaya had the shortest stems. High 1000-grain weight was found in Severodonskaya, Ershovskaya 8, Urozhainaya, Soyuz 50 and Tashkentskaya 2 from the USSR.
