The problems associated with cultivating wheat in salt-affected soils after reclamation are discussed. The major characteristics of high yielding tolerant cultivars are briefly presented. The effects of pH of 9.2, 9.4, 9.6 and 9.8 on germination and seedling survival of new and established wheat cultivars were studied in pot trials. In general semi-tall cultivars tended to show the highest tolerance and produced the highest yields.
